We are happy to announce the workshop and public discussion “Open Institutions: In Search for New Models of Collaboration Between NGOs and Public Institutions” which will be held in Ljubljana from the 14th to the 15th of February, 2011, in the City Museum of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The workshop and public discussion are organized by Asociacija Association and their aim is to tackle the question of possible new ways and models of content and strategic collaboration between NGOs and public institutions in culture, especially in light of the upcoming reform of the public sector in culture that is currently in process in Slovenia.
The public discussion will be held on Tuesday, February 15th, at 11:00 AM at the conference hall in the City Museum of Ljubljana and will be hosted by Katarina Pejović. The guest speaker will be Sonja Kralj Bervar, the director of the Directorat for Cultural Development and European Affairs from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, Iva Hraste Sočo, head of the Department of Dramatic Arts from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, Emina Višnić, director of Pogon – Zagreb Center for Independent Culture and Youth, Jurij Krpan, the president of Asociacija Association and art director of Gallery Kapelica, Ivan Dodovski, the dean of The School of Foreign Languages at University American College Skopje and Bogdan Benigar, director of the jazz and world music program at Cankajrev Dom Ljubljana and director of the Druga Godba Institute.
The public discussion will be based on previous day’s workshop that takes place on Monday, February 14th, at 10:00 AM in the City Museum of Ljubljana. There, representatives of policy-makers, public institutions, NGOs and cultural policy experts from Slovenia, Croatia and Macedonia will attempt to define the main content and strategic connections and problems that are related both to NGOs and public institutions so that new models of collaboration might be established.
The workshop’s goal is to do a reality check of possible collaboration models between NGOs and public institutions and to make policy recommendations, while the public debate aims at deepening the conclusions reached and approaching them from different perspectives. The participants will offer their expertise on feasible scenarios of collaboration models as well as engage in envisaging outcomes of such collaboration models. The debate will focus on the countries of the region of the Western Balkans, but it will address good practice examples from other cultural contexts as well.
The workshop and public discussion “Open Institutions: In Search for New Models of Collaboration Between NGOs and Public Institutions” is a part of the European project Open Institutions – New Meeting Points for Culture and Citizens developed and implemented by three partners: Operation City (Zagreb), Asociacija (Ljubljana) and Kontrapunkt (Skopje), and is supported by the Europe for Citizens Program and the National Fund for Civil Society, Croatia.
